All of the brass parts are from foundry casting
and solid brass stock.
The 24 inch long octagon barrel is made from South American mahogany. It is mounted on either a 50 inch high mahogany tripod that uses a self-aligning height adjusting system which controls the leg spread of the tripod, or a solid brass desk top mount with folding legs. The change from tripod to desk top mount can be accomplished in seconds without tools. The optical system is made up of a 2.5 inch coated achromatic objective lens, with an erecting eye piece system that can be replaced or changed without tools.

Our Octagonal Sundial Pen Holder is a hand-constructed sundial made up of a solid brass gnomon that has been modified to be a pen holder. (Gnomon, the indicator that casts a shadow on the sundial face, is a word derived from the Greek word meaning "One who knows".) The Gnomon is mounted to an octagonal brass plate that has an etched clock dial design. The octagonal wooden base is made from South American Mahogany that has been hand-stained to enhance the natural beauty of the wood. The bottom of the wooden base is felted, to protect the desk from scratches. |
